F1 2022: new cars, who dis?
As the sun rises on the Bahrain circuit and the covers get pulled off the much anticipated 2022 cars, there is a thick sense of anticipation and excitement in the air. The roar of engines, the sound of tires squealing, the unmistakable zip of wheel guns and the snide banter between team bosses are like a symphony for the soul. It is official, the 2022 F1 season is here, we are back! A big welcome back to all of last year’s participants and an exuberant hello to all our new contestants.
Last year saw the greatest 1 vs. 1 title battle in the history of F1, closing out an era dominated by Mercedes, but bookended by Red Bull. Mad Max Verstappen took the crown (#notmychampion) from Sir. Lewis Hamilton in controversial fashion. Meg/Chris took the title in our pool, leading wire to wire, although not without some competition fighting off both Rob and Alan down the stretch. Can the team hailing from Oxford continue their Mercedes like dominance and take the crown again? Or will a new champion emerge from our fresh crop of rookies?
For the next 22 races we will all be treated to wretched heart breaks, magical triumphs, bitter rivalries and questionable strategies. That will just be from our participants. On track, we hope to see the same. And why wouldn’t we, with the most ambitious regulation changes in F1 history taking place this off-season, it truly is anyone's championship for the taking…..well anyone but Haas. So, we are left to wonder; which teams and drivers will take advantage and rise to the top like Mercedes did 8 years ago, and which teams will swing and miss? Who will get the porpoising under control, and who will see their cars turn into dolphins ? Will Ferrari finally be able to return to elite status or is their car more art piece than rocket ship? And most importantly of all…how long will it take Max Verstappen to run Lewis Hamilton off the road? All these questions will be answered because on March 20th its "lights out and away we go!"
